New Metro Lines and the Coastal Road Set to Reshape Mumbai Commutes in 2026

A wave of transport projects is set to improve how Mumbai moves in 2026, with direct effects on property demand along the routes.

New metro stretches are opening in phases — including sections of Line 9 towards Dahisar and Line 2B — while a 10.5-km Thane stretch from Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh and further Metro Line 4 work advance.

The Mumbai Coastal Road, a roughly 29-km route linking Marine Lines in the south to Kandivali in the north, is expected to be fully operational during the year, and a Kochi-style water metro with electric ferries is planned for late 2026.

Better connectivity typically lifts property values near new stations and corridors, as shorter commutes widen the areas buyers are willing to consider.
