MMRDA to Get 1,387 Hectares of Coastal Land for Planned Development

MMRDA to Get 1,387 Hectares of Coastal Land for Planned Development

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been cleared to take over about 1,387 hectares of land across Aksa, Daravli, Erangal, Madh, Malvani and Marve, free of encumbrances.

Large, contiguous land like this is rare in and around Mumbai. Handing it to a single planning body allows coordinated development of housing, infrastructure and open spaces, rather than piecemeal building.

The move fits MMRDA's wider push to expand the region's road, metro and coastal networks along the western edge of the city.

For the areas involved, planned development can mean better civic services and new housing supply over time, though execution and fair rehabilitation of existing residents will decide how smoothly it proceeds.
